Most "chilli heads" would agree that the classic bright orange Habanero is the undisputed King of all the Chilli species. Until recently it was considered to be the hottest chilli in the world, and is only a whisker behind the new leader , the Red Habanero. (To get an idea of it's heat level, the Jalapeno is rated between 2,000 to 5,000 Scoville Units (S.U.'s), whilst the Habanero is rated at over 300,000 S.U.'s.) Apart from it's intense heat, it also has a delicious intense flavour and aroma, a little like apricot. It's a fairly tough plant, and have survived 4 to 6 Melbourne winters in pots. Every chilli head should experience the unique taste of fresh Habanero's at least once before they die.
